Comedian and actor Art Carney began his careerin nightclubs, vaudeville, theatre and radio. Both of Art Carney's parents were Irish Americans and his brother, Jack, is noted for discovering Carmel Quinn while producing Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts on TV. It is in television that Art is best remembered. He teamed up with Jackie Gleason in 1951 and they began production of the successful television comedy program The Honeymooners in 1955. Art played the character of Ed Norton, the upstairs neighbor and sewer worker to Gleason's character of Ralph Kramden and thus making memorable moments in TV history. Carney worked continuously in television, winning the Emmy Award. He also made 23 films and won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Harry and Tonto.
