John HustonJohn Huston is the son of Walter Huston, an actor in Vaudeville, theater and film. The parents of Walter Huston were both Scotch-Irish with surnames of McGibbon and Houghston. The early life of John Huston was filled with varied interests. He was a boxer, competitive horseman, Calvary officer, Major in the U.S. Army, street performer, artist and writer. He made his film debut in 1941 with The Maltese Falcon, starring Humphrey Bogart. He was nominated 13 times for Academy Awards and won twice for Best Director and Writer for The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). John has the unique distinction of directing his father, Walter Huston (The Treasure of the Sierra Madre) and his daughter, Angelica Huston (Prizzi's Honor-1985) in Academy Award winning performances. John moved to Ireland in 1952 and became a citizen in 1964. His long career included directing 44 films and acting in 37. His last film is the wonderful adaptation of James Joyce's The Dead.
