Thomas Moores songs were of international renown and is often considered Ireland's national bard. Born in Dublin, his "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms," "The Minstrel Boy," "Oft In The Stilly Night," and "The Last Rose of Summer" were standard repertoire for most singers in the early part of the twentieth century. His Moore's Irish Melodies was published in 1846 and 1852. While he is more remembered for his music today, during his life he was recognized more as a great poet and his reputation equaled that of Shelley and Byron. Moore actually became the literary executor of Byron and edited and published Letters and Journals of Lord Byron , with Notices of His Life in 1830.
